Feeding and Fertiliser

Before adding additional fertiliser check with us when the turf supplied was last fed and do not add any fertiliser before the turf has established roots. We recommend consulting us before fertilizing to ensure the right product, amount and conditions are followed

What to watch:

Fertiliser left on the surface can scorch turf leaving yellow blotches. Avoid this by applying fertiliser before rain to ensure it dissolves into the ground. Be careful with the application, too thin or uneven and a green chequer board effect can be achieved, too thick and the grass can be scorched.

Watering

Turf is a living plant and before taking on a project please ensure you have considered how to give it the care it needs in regard to water. For at least two weeks after laying, we recommend, in hot conditions the new turf is watered early in the morning and last thing at night. In order to ensure enough water has been applied, gently lift an edge to check there is water at the root. In very hot conditions water in the middle of the day too.

What to watch:

Turf will dry from the edges and it is here that water must be applied to soak. Drying turf will first adopt a dusty, wilted look before turning brown and curling up like toast.

Dogs and Children

Though lovable, both can be a challenge for new turf. Allow newly laid turf at least 14days to establish its roots to draw water and hold it in place. We recommend avoiding heavy use such as the family tournament for a month.

What to watch:

Lifting an edge will show at what stage the roots are at, ideally the turf should be treated carefully until the edge can no longer be lifted without ripping up new roots. Areas made up with deep soil will need to settle to avoid damage to the lawn.

Weeds and Moss

We make every effort to ensure our turf is the best quality it can be however our fields are open to contamination from birds and wind and this can lead to the occasional weed. Your satisfaction is key to our business and we will be happy to resolve any concerns you have with any of our products. We limit the use of chemicals in our fields to support the environment.

What to watch:

Regular maintenance of a lawn will reduce both. Always try to remove as much of the weed root as possible. Avoid leaving lawns covered in autumn leaves for too long as this can smother grass and encourage moss and weeds to develop. Delivery

Each job is individual to its own needs and our dedicated team are there to make the process as easy as possible. We pride ourselves on an individual service even using smaller lorries to ensure we can get the product as close to the last meter location as possible. When ordering be sure to advise us of any specific details such as steps, rear garden access or escape prone children.

Soil. When purchased by the tonne soil is tipped from a 7.5tonne lorry. We recommend putting tarpaulin or similar in place to avoid wastage or damage to the surface below.

Turf and bagged products are normally unloaded by hand at the side of the lorry, our drivers make every effort to get the product to the final location and can stack the turf neatly in a convenient place.
